Free Junior Membership Programme
Over the next 5 years we are looking to develop a junior section that will be the envy of all the clubs in the area. Golf is a sport for life with its ethos based on self discipline, personal development, honesty and integrity, all values I am sure we want for our youngsters. In developing the junior section at Cleveland Golf Club we are setting the seeds to secure future success not only within the club but at all levels, we may even find the next Rory McIlroy or Luke Donald.
The first steps to achieving our goals are already in place as you will read and with a sound development plan, innovative ideas and hard work, our junior section can only get stronger. We also have a fantastic offer giving FREE! junior membership of Cleveland Golf Club for youngsters aged 6-14 years in the coming new year.
Currently at the club our PGA Professional staff are making the first moves through schools coaching in conjunction with Golf Roots at the local Secondary and Primary Schools offering taster sessions for youngsters of all ages. Upwards of 300 youngsters have experienced golf for the first time through our schools taster sessions. The Young Masters Golf programme which is proving popular has over 25 youngsters signed up. The YMG programme is the best junior coaching programme available with over 120,000 youngsters taking part across the county, is run at the club and teaches youngsters not only the basics of hitting the ball but importantly teaches them the etiquette, basic rules and club life. The Lottery funded Sportivate programme for young people aged between 14-25 has also helped fund an after school club at Redcar Academy and school holidays coaching at Cleveland Golf Club.
The Coatham Kids Club which started in October is also proving popular as an introduction to the course and club life. This 'roll up' club on a Sunday afternoon includes tuition, fun skills games, beat the Pro and an introduction to the course and competition. The club is the first step to competitive golf. Playing from a shortened course and with handicaps starting at 54, it offers a realistic challenge while encouraging youngsters to play in a safe and enjoyable environment. The Coatham Kids Club also encourages parents and grand parents to get involved with various events scheduled throughout the season.
This coming new year we have a fantastic offer for youngsters aged between 6 and 14 to get into golf, with our Free Junior Membership Programme which ultimately leads to FREE! Junior Membership at Cleveland Golf Club.
